ARCHITECTURE
Federation/ Federation Villa with Regency Influences
No. 2 (previously was no. 22) Preston Point road is a single-storey house constructed in limestone and brick with a hipped and gabled, corrugated-iron roof. It is a fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a thrust gable bay and a full-width, return, hip-roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on stop chamfered timber posts. The gable bay features a pair of windows and a lunette-shaped vent. The entrance is located on the south elevation under the return verandah. Walls are limestone with brick quoins. The roofscape is enriched by brick chimneys with rendered caps.
HISTORY
In 2020 we received these two postcards from Debbie Stewart who had found them for $10 and bought them because she liked ‘censored’ war postcards. She donated them to us in the hope they could return to the family.
They were hard to read but we have worked out they were written by Arnold Hasler Evans of Hubble Street, East Fremantle to his Sister- Florence Evans (Mrs H W Fordham) of Preston Point Road in 1916. He wrote them in April 1916 in Egypt during WWl.
Herbert William Fordham, was a clerk and accountant (b 1860 in Fremantle)
