Horace Parker
(1875-1944)
Horace Hill Parker was the first Town Clerk of East Fremantle. He was appointed to the position when East Fremantle was declared a municipality in 1897 and he continued in the role for 46 years, until his sudden death in 1944, which almost caused a crisis in a council that was hoping to resume normal peacetime duties.
Horace Hill Parker's parents were Abel William Parker and Emma Edwards. Abel born 1836 Southwark in the UK.
Horace was born in Aldinga (South Australia) and came to WA during the gold rush when he was 23. He married Lyla Winnifred MOORE in 1898. Eliza Winifred's father was Frank Collingham Moore who died in 1938, age 82. Frank's father was George Moore and his spouse was Mary Sophia Woods.
His only child, a daughter was Dr. Dorothea Parker.
Parker Street is named after him.
Horace Hill Parker lived with his family including his daughter Dorothea Laura Hill Parker at 158 Canning Highway, East Fremantle.
He died in 1944 aged 69 years (reference)
He was survived by grandson Richard Parker Camm who married Marjorie Gubgub in 1957.
